Chateau du Mung was originally built in 1301. The ground floor and the Northwest tower were built in the 15th c. and are still standing and in excellent condition. Other additions were made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The size of the property is 8 hectares or appx. 20 acres, which borders the Charente river about 300 meters behind the chateau.
The chateau has been restored with new plumbing and electricity. The entire chateau has plentiful hot water and the living area, including the kitchen, dining room and private apartment. There is central hot water/radiator heating in about half of the chateau including the kitchen, private apartment, and main dining room. Other areas in the chateau are electrically heated.

Restoration is appropriate to the period. There is a replaced slate roof from the big storm of the century. The 19 outbuildings had tile roofs replaced October-November, 2009.

Kitchen has large commercial stainless stove and other furnishings. The large dining room has beautiful 18thc. built in china and silver cabinets with 17th/18th century hand painted canvas wall covering.

The ground floor has beautiful old tile from the 17th/18th centuries. Upper floors have 18th c. pine floors in excellent condition.

It is in a great location in the Charente Maritime, South of the Loire & North of Bordeaux. It is 2 3/4 hours by the TGV South West of Paris, or by car 4 hours on the A10.

There is much to see in the Charente Maritime including Roman ruins and the Atlantic Ocean is only about 15 miles away with beautiful beaches in Royan and Chatillon Plage. La Rochelle is only 30 miles with it's history and beautiful harbor. The fresh produce from the area and the wine is unsurpassed, with 2 outdoor vegetable/fruit markets per week in each village.

The outbuildings include a stable, chapel, 2 very large garages, pigeonaire, 3 apartments and various other buildings of the 18 in all. The wine cellar is in the chateau under the elaborate Renaissance staircase.

The park has many trees including Sequoias from America, many beautiful chestnut trees and other 200 to 300 year old specimen trees. All pertinent chateau and site plans and a history of previous owners is available.
