We've been here in Panama this last 6 years .... and things are changing ...
Changes that you should know about ....
There is a new immigration law passed on the 27th of February ... as a set of guidelines .... that is up for review over the next few months ...
where the detail (regulations) will be completed ..... The clock is ticking ....
If you are coming here on small investor visa ... It may go up from $40k to $75k.
A self supporting visa which allowed you to invest $200k on property or $80k on property with a $120k CD ... is rumoured to bump up to $350k.
No news yet what may happen to the pensioners - Pensionado Visa ... it'll definitely be there but maybe needing a higher pension.
The 20 year tax break for new homes comes to an end soon ... to qualify the permit to build has to have been granted by 01 July 2009.
So if you are buying pre construction then you'll have to have paid a deposit to your builder before that.
Panama is a great place to live as you can s-t-r-e-t-c-h your d o l l a r.
We shop at the Rey or Romero supermarkets and our bill is 40% cheaper than in Florida. Great fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of local brands.
Our Internet and TV costs $38 a month.
Medical Insurance cost $50 a month !!! ... You can live well for $1000 a month.
... We have built and sold a number of homes to Americans,Europeans and Canadians ....
Over the last 6 years ... I've probably met around 1000 people looking at moving to Panama ...
A pattern emerged ...
They were 55 years or so .... invariably a couple ... 150k to 200k in the bank ... most needing some basic spanish lessons ... pension of $1k to $2k a month.
