Tropical Cloud Forest for Sale in San Cristobal De Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico

A Tropical Cloud Forest That Pays for Itself

Imagine a place that looks like the movie set for "Jurassic Park." A place where the climate is perfect all year, rare tropical flowers and birds abound, traffic noise is mainly horses and bicylces, and the stars are so bright you can reach out and touch them. Perfect climate, rich pastureland and hundreds of miles of hiking trails make this a nature lovers paradise. Now is the time to take advantage of a rare opportunity to live in a tropical cloud forest that pays for itself.

Rancho La Escondida is 55+ acres of tropical cloud forest located on a mountain ridge at 1700 meters (5800') above sea level. Ten acres of rich pastureland make the ranch one of the most prized properties in the Chiapas Highlands . Million dollar views include the Grijalva River Valley and the Sierra Madre Mountains of Chiapas.

"Hidden Mexico Tours" is an ecobusiness we run out of the ranch. We invite guests to stay a day or a night or a week at the ranch to enjoy swimming, hiking, horseback riding, bird watching and barbecues. This business generates the income we need to run the ranch.

Rancho La Escondia is 30 minutes outside San Cristobal de las Casas, a charming colonial town and the major tourist attraction of southern Mexico with a large ex-pat community. Ten minutes from the ranch is Teopisca, a traditional "ranch" town with real cowboys (vaqueros) and indians (indigenas). In Teopisca you can access the internet, eat at good restaurants, and shop the local market.

Rancho La Escondida is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The ranch includes an adobe cottage, a small canyon, a lake, unexplored caves, several wet weather stream, 3 mountains, and three small valleys. We have a new horse stable with 6 box stalls, a large corral with 8 open stalls, a tack room, and a large storage building. The land is fenced and crossed fenced with "living fences" of live trees. Two hundred plus coffee trees were planted last year, along with bananas, sugar cane, peaches, plums, limes, oranges, guava, loquat and avocado. Chickens and rabbits are being raised on the ranch. Two acres are under cultivation, providing the ranch with all the food needed for man and animal alike.

Horses are being bred and trained on the ranch. Currently we have an Arabian stallion, a Morgan gelding, 2 Buckskin mares, a Criollo mare, a Paint filly, a mule and a donkey.

Two separate buildings house bathrooms with flush toilets and showers. Two sites for trailer/campers were recently built. In addition, there is a palapa or outdoor pavilion with a palm leaf roof, a great place for parties and barbecues. A new lookout tower or "mirador" affords 100 mile views atop Mount Luisa (6,200 ft. above sea level.) A 5000 gallon cistern holds fresh spring water from the separately deeded mountain spring which never goes dry. The climate averages 72 degrees Farenheit--think Hawaii--with a wet season and a dry season.

I am selling this paradise because other comittments are proving to be more time consuming than I orginially thought. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a tropical paradise.
