Concept
6 villas conceived for the tropical climate. Inspired by South East Asian Architecture to provide protection against the elements of heat, rain and floods whilst allowing the resident to benefit from natural light with the clever design ensuring a feeling of open but private living space
Project and architecture
The project is the product of a collaboration of design between Swiss architect and designer Rene Sidler and Thai architect of Phuket. Rene Sidler a veteran of Asia for 20 years identified some of the challenges when contemplating design for the tropics:
The extremes of heat and rain and went on to explain important areas of focus to ensure practical enjoyment of the home.
- Emphasis on good shadow and ventilation
- Good drainage of the whole terrain in the rainy season
- High ventilation to guarantee heat removal
- Large roof, large veranda
All rooms have 6 meter high ceilings as to ensure superior ventilation and to guarantee good heat dissipation. All living space and bedrooms rooms have large sliding windows on 2 to 3 sides to guarantee good ventilation thus reducing the need for air conditioning. All rooms, verandas and Salas are equipped with ceiling fans.
Location
Suksan Gardens is located in the south of Phuket, between Chalong and Nai Harn, 400 meters far from the main road at Soi Suksan in a minor road arranged as a cul-de-sac without through nveiniently situated with the beaches at Nai Harn, Karon, Rawai, Chalong or Kata within a 10 minute radius of the development. The area is a select but popular tourist destination with an established expatriate resident community.
Legal
The development of 6 villas is arranged on plots of between 700 – 750 square meters accessed by a private road with inherent rights of access to all owners. Each house comes with a guest parking space. This common area is landscaped, illuminated at night and maintained under shared obligation from the 6 villa owners.
Infrastructure
Development
The project is situated directly on the renovated Soi Suksan and is developed on an exclusive private road
Water
The development is connected to the local mains water supply but as a contingency every villa is equipped with its own 14 meter deep well with diameter of 1.5 meter. The well is at least 3 meters high during the dry season and the natural water quality is excellent.
In addition to the well, a concrete water tank was built, which is used to store water from the well automatically and assists in keeping the water cool.
Road
All land plots are developed with a concrete road. On both sides, drainage pipes (of 30 cm diameter) with 5 control shafts, electricity, telephone, cable TV and ADSL.
Electricity, Cable TV, Telephone
The development is protected and served by its own transformer located on the road and at this distribution point, a central meter station was installed housing 6 meters, one for each villa. These facilities are equipped with 5 control boxes, electricity, telephone, cable TV and ADSL.
Environment
All land plots are surrounded by a 2.20 meters high wall in Bali style. The access road is landscaped with palms and blooming bushes. Entry to the development is via a remote controlled electrically operated security gate.
