South Fork, Colorado is located at the southern end of the Silver Thread Scenic Byway where Highway 149 and Highway 160 intersect.

Since the 20th Century, logging, agriculture and tourism have been important factors to the area's growth. Well to do sportsmen of the 1870s were well acquainted with South Fork and the Rio Grande River, which were and still are celebrated for the apparently boundless wildlife.

South Fork is ideal for guests who want to spend the day in a picturesque mountain landscape while enjoying various outdoor activities such as cross country skiing, snowmobiling, rafting on the Rio Grande River, trophy hunting, gold medal fishing, dirt biking, four-wheeling, horseback riding, along with countless other recreation and entertainment activities.
