Holiday Home/Retreat for Sale in Waisali Village, Koro Island, Fiji
A Second Home with a Real Difference
Imagine living in the South Pacific, where the weather is warm all year, the ocean is crystal clear and unpolluted, where there is not an advertising sign to be seen anywhere.
Does it appeal to your romantic instincts?
Do you want to immerse yourself in the elements: sea, wind, rain, sun, earth, forest and beach?
Does your body need to tone up and go barefooted?
Are you ready to escape winter?
How about living next to another culture? People who are semi-traditional, simple and honest, who greet you openly, and who have strong family and community values?
Koro Island, Fiji, is a great place to take a break from the complexities of modern life, comfortably and with security.
It’s a place with a real difference … for people who are already different.
CAN YOU MEET THE CHALLENGES?
Is your health good? (A basic clinic is down the road, and Suva has quality care options).
Are you free from too many other responsibilities, such as work and family commitments?
Are you flexible?
Can you afford it? (Some people think living in the Pacific is cheap – where is, these days?)
Will your friends and family come to this unusual destination?
Can you do without fancy restaurants, bars, nightlife, shopping malls, TV?
Do you have handy-man skills? (We’ve managed six years with few of them, but they sure would have helped!)
Do you like silence?
Are you and your partner equally ready for this challenge?
IF THE ANSWERS ARE "YES" READ ON...
Forget the apartment in Spain, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Florida, Queensland,or Bay of Islands.
Have something unique to talk about over dinner.
Learn things about yourself you never knew.
Connect with nature on this beautiful and remote South Pacific island.
WE'VE MADE IT EASY FOR YOU
You can move in tomorrow.
Our house is completely finished. (Houses here are usually built on “Fiji time”. You need a lot of patience if you want to get it done yourself).
Its open design still allows you to “play” with it and change things to suit your personality.
It is totally furnished.
The seven year old garden is maturing. (There are dozens of fruit trees).
Contacts and connections with useful people have been established.
THE LOCATION
Koro is Fiji’s sixth biggest island.
There are twelve Fijian villages, plus our own community of “Waisali.”
There are a number of houses owned by foreigners here ... but spread out from each other. (We can hardly see anyone else.)
Many of the “overseas” people come and go – from Europe, Australia and New Zealand, America and Hawaii.
Many houses are still under construction.
It’s a heavily forested area.
Everything grows quickly.
There is a rainy and a dry season.
The sea out the front is generally clear and warm.
Fijian coral reefs are some of the least disturbed in the whole world and if you go to Namena Island (20km) away you will see some of the best reef life in the world.
Diving, fishing and snorkeling are excellent.
There are parrots in the trees, hawks circling above and wild chickens in the forest.
There are no poisonous snakes or dangerous animals.
Horses wander about.
THE HOUSE
Our house, "Bure Totoka", is up the hill about 300m from the ocean.
We prefer to live away from the ocean – it’s cooler, more private and there are fewer insects.
We have an uninterrupted view of the ocean and reef, with hardly another building in sight.
The front part of the one acre freehold / privately owned property is a garden full of fruit trees. Pick your own breakfast.
Behind the house is natural rain forest with many hardwood trees.
Up here is the sweet smell of the tropics and the sound of birds.
The house has been built to the highest standards and has a Fijian approved building certificate.
It has a strong thatched roof, and a high vaulted ceiling, reflecting Fijian building styles.
We have three bedrooms. Two stand separately, one with en suite and its own deck, and both connected by walkways. (You can bring your children, mother or friends and maintain some privacy.)
The fully-equipped kitchen is large and fitted with mahogany cupboards and benches, with views onto the ocean and the forest.
The fridge and stove run from gas bottles.
There is a screened-in room with a breakfast bar, where we use the computer and phone, or sit in the evening and read, or watch videos.
The main covered deck is 12 metres wide and is where we dine, exercise, read and entertain.
There are roll-down see-through curtains, for the occasional protection from the weather.
Rain water is collected into tanks and gravity fed to the house. No need for pumps.
The house is solar powered [24v/240v]
A 20 foot container is on the property, for secure storage.
We have tools and a new generator.
NEED MORE?
We have a Toyota Hi Lux 3 Litre truck and a 7 metre fibreglass dive/fishing boat with twin 115hp, four stroke engines.
Both of these are negotiable additions to the house price.
CONNECTIONS
Koro Island is connected to Fiji’s two biggest islands by ferry and air. International airlines fly into Nadi and Suva.
