Castle for Sale in Crnci, Prekmurje, Slovenia

17th Century Castle for Sale

The Crnci Castle was built during the Baroque period, before 1691, though the exact date is unknown. It was first owned by the Counts of Negova, the Trutmannsdorfs, and after 1909 it was owned by one of the wealthiest and world-known coffee traders, Julius Meinl. Julius Meinl was very popular among his workers and so the castle had since then also been known as the Meinl Castle. Julius Meinl was the castle's officall owner until 1941, when he left Slovenia and returned to Austria. After the Second World War, the castle was taken over by the communist occupation forces and became the state property. Since then the castle has served many purposes. The ground floor rooms were reconstructed into offices and apartments, and at some point the castle had even been used as a shelter home for orfens. Its last owners reconstructed the castle's ground floor chambers into a restaurant.

Although not many of the castle's objects and furniture had been preserved, there are still some of them left that truly depict the glorious time in which it was built. One of them is the green ceramic stove dating back to 14th century, used by the previous owners as a type of central heating. One of the most astonishing objects, however, is a spacious marble fireplace at the entrance hall that was also used as an escape tunnel leading all the way up to the mill on the Mura River - the border river between Austria and Slovenia. There is also a medallion of two Romans, apparently of a husband and wife, taken from the Roman graveyard by one of the previous owners.

At the time the castle was built it was sorrounded by the park and the gardens with exotic and fruit trees and flowers. Before the World War Two the castle's garden was used as a tennis court by its owner Julius Meinl. Today the castle is still sorrounded by the same park and the garden, though they both need special attention and care, since they had not been taken care of properly for some time.

The gardens, park and the sorrounding land are ideal for a golf course, tennis court, or any other similar sport activity and the castle itself is perfect for a rebuild into a hotel or apartment building, due to the size of its rooms.
