The hotel has historic roots all the way back to 1893 when it was originally built on the property of the late William Henry Singer jr - a well known american artist who made Olden his home. The hotel was restored and built out further in different stages. The building as it currently stands was constructed in 1978.

While originally built as a sommer hotel, it has been used for a variety of purposes all year round, since 1999. The hotel is 200 meters from Oldena which is a well known salmon-fishing lake, 500 meters from a harbour which is visited by cruise ships several times a week. It lies by the road leading to the Briksdalsglacier - a well known place frequented by tourists from all over the world. In a valley nearby the hotel, Olderdalen, are two freshwater lakes that are popular for fishing. The hotel has its own source of water, "Olden water" which is sold bottled in shops around Norway and is known to be among the best water available.

The whole area consists of high mountains, deep fjords, and nature of exceptional beauty, with possibilities for tourism all year round.

There are many mountains with heavy snow in winter, alpine skiing centers for both summer and winter nearby, and fishing is arranged by locals both for freshwater and sea fishing. Nordfjord is unique for its nature. Olden is a village near Stryn town. Stryn is approx. 500 km from Oslo, on Norway`s west coast.
