Living area is roomy for cooking, dining, home office, and sleeping. A back section houses a bathroom with shower, closet, storage, and refrigerator. The property includes a garden house and under-house storage areas. The well-functioning solar system includes four 80-watt panels, wind generator, and 6,000-liter rainwater catch. Batteries were replaced in 2007, and hot water heater is new. All has been well-maintained by the full-time resident owners.

Beautiful Gardens of vegetables, fruits, and bright tropical plants cover the .63 acre site. Bananas, papayas, coconuts, pineapples, passion fruit, avocados, lemons, Fiji oranges, cassava, taro, bele (greens), lemongrass, herbs, and more. Living on Koro Island for us has been a dream come true, an island home in a pristine rainforest in its natural state. A walk takes you to a nearby waterfall, ancient village sites, and beaches. Koro Beach Resort offers seaside dining and bungalows, moorings, state-of-the-art diving and fishing equipment, and kayaks for a trip to Sand Island.

Life on Koro is simple and off-the-grid. Solar power and rainwater provide utilities, with no monthly bills! Koro is Fiji's 6th largest island with 14 Fijian villages. Fijians have been rated as the world's most friendly people by Conde Nast Traveler magazine. They are gentle, kind, and helpful. Cultural experiences include local rugby matches and "meke" (Fijian traditional dance) and "kava" (traditional social drink) events.

This home is 1/4 mile from the government road, in an area of 500 acres and 30 houses called Waisali Village, where a dozen Westerners live full time and 40-50 others visit during the year. Only two houses are visible from our deck. There are no shopping malls or convenience stores. Village shops stock basic necessities, and other items can be brought across on the ferry.

Why Fiji? Fijians welcome people from other countries. It's beautiful beyond compare, with wonderful climate year-round. The ocean life is spectacular. It is stable and safe to live here. Most Fijians speak English. Cost of living is much less than in Western countries. Total population is around 800,000.

Buying property is easy and reliable. This property is freehold, so you can buy it outright. The title was researched by the original developer. There are no liens or incumbrances, and the title can be transferred easily. There is no property tax in Fiji.

The economy is based on land and sugarcane, not backed up by the artificial value of gold or printed money. The government is working on a new constitution and elections in 2010. Fiji is safer than most places in the world. We often leave our doors unlocked, have never experienced a theft or a threat of any kind.

Transportation to the Island Koro Island is accessed by ferry from the main island of Viti Levu and the island of Vanua Levu. Private and resort boats also make the one-hour trip from Savusavu. A seaplane can be hired from the international airport of Nadi.
