CUMBUCO

Cumbuco is a small fishers village 25 km north from the million-city Fortaleza. Around Fortaleza is Cumbuco the best place to stay. With nice uncrowded sandy beaches and palm trees everywhere. Characteristic for Cumbuco is how it is situated. At one side the nice blue sea at the other side the big sand dunes. The nice small centre of Cumbuco is build around a town square like they do this in Brazil. In the middle of this Town Square is a football field. Where they play football every day. Around the town square are lots of restaurants and small super markets. Brazil has excellent value for money.

WIND & CLIMATE

All year round good kitesurfing in Cumbuco. Best months are August until December. These months you can kite every day with 10, 12 or 14m² kites. In the other months the wind can also be really good. But do not forget to bring a 16 or an 18m² kite. Behind Cumbuco are some really big dunes. The Dunes are creating some really warm air, which creates the every day blowing wind. The wind increases the more North you go. Not necessary to bring a wetsuit. Almost the whole year the water is like 20 to 25 degrees.

KITESURFING IN CUMBUCO

Around Cumbuco the beaches are wide and everywhere are places to go kiting. The kitezone is in front of the Eco paradise hotel. Here are the most kiters. But no problem if it gets to busy, Just go up or down wind 150 meters and you are the only kiter. 6 km downwind from Cumbuco is a nice laguna. This is a fresh water laguna called "Lagoa de Cauipe". Here the water is really flat. It's possible to do a down winder from Cumbuco to the laguna. This takes around 45 minutes. Don't forget to ask somebody to pick you up. The laguna is not so big and also well known by the local kiteschools. So it can be really crowded, especially during weekends.

When you want to have waves just drive North for 1 hour and look for a place called Paracuru. This is one of the best places to go kiting. First 150 meters flat water, after that a perfect breaking wave on some reef. Not the perfect beginners place but for intermediate or advanced kiters a real paradise.

AT NIGHT

In Cumbuco are living only 1500 Brazilians. There are not really European standard bars or discotheques. No big party at night in Cumbuco. Still some Brazilians go play football on the Town Square or drink a beer there.

When you want to party you have to go to Fortaleza. Here it's every night party! What can i say, just go there and you will find out! Don't miss it because you have to see this once! On Sunday night I can recommend the Orbita. All night there are live rock bands.

FORTALEZA

The capital of the state of Ceará is best known for its beaches: glorious long stretches of sand interrupted by impressive red cliffs, palm trees, dunes, and lagoons that offer a true tropical playground. Fortaleza is a major fishing port and fast growing tourist destination in the northeast of Brazil. In the centre there are interesting old buildings, including the Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, which was the origin of the city (the name Fortaleza is the Portuguese for Fortress). The Mercado Central and the Cathedral are the major sights in the area.

The best beaches are east of town. The Praia de Iracema (where the apartment is located) and the Praia do Futuro (not far from the apartment) are good options. In Fortaleza there are beaches for everyone; intellectuals, bohemians, night partiers, swimmers, kiters and surfers. Along the Avenida Beira Mar (very close to the apartment) there are a few more beaches, such as Meireles and Mucuripe; here, the walkway is wide, with plenty of space for joggers and walkers, who usually refresh themselves at one of the several kioskes and restaurants established along the way. The beaches are also the focal point of nightlife and entertainment.

Fortaleza has a population of over 2.4 million and is the fourth most populated city in Brazil, and the second most important city in the region in economic terms, after Salvador in Bahia. To the north of the city lies the Atlantic Ocean; to the south are the cities of Pacatuba, Eusébio, Maracanaú and Itaitinga; to the east is the county of Aquiraz and the Atlantic Ocean; and to west is the city of Caucaia.
