Berkley Farm is situated in the upper derwent valley close to doctors, Primary School, Shops and Golf course.

The farm is a friesian cow dairy farm milking 250 cows at the moment. We have a town supply contract with national foods, supplying from 1.2 to 1.8 million litres of milk. ( presently returning 50 to 60 cents per litre (see scale of milk account and volume attached.) It contains a 48 bale rotary with a westfalia milking plant which is 3yrs old, an alflex waterring vacume pump, a large Alflaval cooler plate, icebank and compressor and a 14,000 litre vat. With a 3kw washdown pump and two water storage tanks.

There are 4 grain silos 50 tonne, 80 tonne, 10 tonne and 20 tonne all connected with an helicoil auger system. There is a grain crusher, auto grain dispenser with a mineral dispenser attached.

There are calf shed and calf paddocks.

A large workshop, Hay barn, and large storage sheds with seurity fencing.

All major buildings have 3 phase power.

There is 3 Pump sheds with various sized pumps.

The farm consist of 2 dams with a permit to build a new one, which is soon to be built and a large effluent pond .

A deep bore has just been drilled down 166meters, which is now sitting 40 meters below the serface, a vague estimate at the moment is minimum 250 gallons an hour situated close to the dairy. Flow approx 1000 gallon per hour.

The Paddocks mainly consist of rye and clover grass with 40 acres of lucerne. Most of the farm is irrigated country. The irrigation consists of a 120 acre 2je Lineal, 1 irrifrace hard hose which waters the lucerne paddocks and bowermans hill, there is also a few long line laterals.

The farm is regulary fertilized with NSL, imported from New Zealand, we have used 100 tonnes in the last 12 mnths.

This year we got 950 large bales of silage off the farm.

There is an 80 acre Pine plantation which can be leased to Gunns limited or Norsk Skogg or can be sold in 12 to 15 yrs at harvest time.




We rear all replacement heifers plus 60 to 70 heifers for export on farm, this year we have used sexed seemen and bovatel with good conception and birth results. All our stock have european bloodlines mostly Dutch, French and Danish with a small amount from the USA.


The farm has 4 Houses.

An historic 1912 HOME-STEAD Farm Bed & Breakfast receiving approx $ 800.00 per week on accommodation ( contract accommodation)

On Farm Activity




We are at the moment replacing all the road fencing with ringlock and electric fences, we have renewed about 70 % of internal fencing with electric wires.

We are in the process of gaining a contract with Optus and Telstra for a new phone tower to be place on our farm, paying $600 from one and $400 from the other a month.

There is a deep bore in the process of been accessed and a large dam going to be put in. Main water supply unrestricted from the OUSE RIVER.

CHEESE FACTORY

There is NO cheese factory in this area there are many dairy farms nearby , so this would be a PRIME site to built a cheese factory and milk powder processing plant. ( .)
