In 1883, when the railroad station D. Pedro II was inaugurated, the town had more than 100 coffee farms. It has been a stage of famous Brazilian tv mini series. Events during the year as the Film Festival in September and a must-see "Chorinho" (Brazilian Jazz) Festival in July are public favorites.
