Country House for Sale in Portalegre, Alentejo, Portugal

Country House for Sale in the Southern Plains of Alentejo

The 2001 renovation kept the original plan of the house, with the steep roof, the 0,5m thick stone walls, the blue tiles of the kitchen and most of the big wooden doors, turning it into a unique example of old rural architecture.
But its modern facilities, fireplace and swimming pool make it comfortable and cozy in winter or summer.
Rooms are large and sunny, with high wood ceilings and either traditional clay or wooden floors. One of the upstairs bedroom still shows a medieval stone shrine embebbed in the wall .
The view to the pond, lavander garden, swimming pool and sunset is amazing.
Storks and many colourful birds fly over the property. Other reminder of pre-historical origines of the place is the 2 metres high Menhir found on the premises, kept in the outside patio.
The house is 1 km from Alagoa, a typical white Alentejo village with bakery, grocery, chemist, ATM.
The region´s gastronomy and wines are famous, with small restaurants displaying an array of tasteful traditional cuisine, cheeses, smoked pork sausages, sweets and desserts.
São Mamede Natural Park, Portalegre and the charming medieval villages of Alpalhão, Crato, Castelo de Vide, Flor da Rosa and Marvão ( with its 18 holes´golf course) are only 10minutes away.
