Florianópolis is located on the south coast of Brazil, and it’s the capital of Santa Catarina State, a region which has been influenced greatly by Italian and German colonizers. The city is on an Island connected to the continent by two bridges, and there is easy access to the main Brazilian cities - São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro - by car, bus or airplane. A flight from Florianópolis to São Paulo takes one hour, and to Rio, an hour and a half.
The island of Florianópolis has more than 40 gorgeous beaches and two big lagoons: Lagoa da Conceição and Lagoa do Peri. Both are located on the east cost of the island and Lagoa da Conceição, the larger one, is connected to the sea through the Canal da Barra.
Lagoa da Conceição is certainly the most beautiful and lively region of the island. Some of the main beaches of the island are nearby: Campeche, Joaquina, Mole, Galhetas and Moçambique. Lagoa da Conceição is a neighborhood with 20 thousand inhabitants, many of them international residents from Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, United States and England, as well as Brazilians from other areas, especially Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. Hundreds of restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, cultural centers, bookshops and cafes make it a totally self-sufficient and cosmopolitan neighborhood.
It is here in this paradise, that our house is located. The property extends over 1.300 square meters, inside a privileged condominium shared by only three other houses, in an area of more than 50.000 square meters. The house was designed to completely integrate the green landscape around it. Floor to ceiling windows on the first floor bring the native flora into the house. Designed by Márcia Barbieri, one of the most renowned architects in the area, this modern structure sits in complete harmony with its surroundings. Every tree on the land was conserved, and the position of the house was defined according to the movement of the sun (full of natural light until 9 pm in the summer and 5:30 pm in the winter).
The large deck around the living room, the barbecue area and the brick oven are perfect for outside lunches and dinners all year round.
Inside, the house is a chef’s dream: a big kitchen, almost 20 square meters, open to a balcony into the dining room, and equipped with large cabinets and ventilation system.
The living room includes a fireplace built into the glass wall which pleasantly warms up the chilly winter nights, when the temperature is around 17 ?C. Downstairs there is also a toilet, TV room, a guest room with independent entrance and a bathroom, and a suite with a full bathroom. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and outside decks. Upstairs there are two master suites, one with a walk in closet, Jacuzzi and air conditioning, the other with ceiling fan, bathroom and walk in closet.
The water heating system is gas and the showers are pressurized. There is also a big outdoor shower in the garden, perfect for after the beach. The landscape allows for the construction of a swimming pool and other facilities. There are three visitor parking spaces outside and three more spaces on the inside of the automatic gate.
The house encompasses a total of 228 square meters, without including the wraparound deck. The house was completed in December 2002 and has never had another owner.
The area where the house is located is completely secure and there have never been any burglaries in the neighborhood.
In contrast to the peace and serenity of the region, there are pharmacies, a bakery, supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, video stores within 150 meters.
