The Malindi Marine Park is one of the highlights of the area. It is a marine reserve with beautifull coral gardens with an abundance of beautifull fish and other creatures. Visit for snorkling preferable at low tide. Also it's a good area for swimming and relaxation at the beach.
Mayungu, a fishing village with nomad fisherman from Pembe Tanzania at 10 km south of Malindi and Membrui an old arab setlement at 10 km north of Malindi are interesting villages to visit.
At Watamu the most beautifull beaches of Africa are situated.
Watamu Marine Park is worth a visit as well.
The Midas Creek is a spectacular wonder of nature as well. Contact the locals to bring you by canoo to the middle of Midas Creek to the island and drink some fresh cocnuts there with the Giriama's(subtribe of the Mijikenda's). Best time to visit is at high tide cause it's quite shalow at low tide.
Halfway between Gede (an interesting historical site) and Watamu is the Panga cave situated(coming from Gede halfway on the left side just look for a small signboard and drive about 1 km from the road). The best time to visit is just before sundawn. Thousands and thousands of bats will fly out at sundawn. Quite spectacular! It's a perfect place to get acqainted with the Giriama way of life
as well and taste there the fresh "mnasi" (fermented juice tapped from the cocospalms) and see the myriads of stars above your head.
Cause there there is no electricity and it is pitchdark.
