The actual town centre of Alfaz del Pi is 2 km inland but Alfaz stretches to the coast where you can find the beach of Albir and the promenade known as Paseo de las Estrellas which translates into English as promenade of the stars, this is because it is studded with the names of actors honoured at the Alfaz del Pi film festival which happens every July. Make sure you walk to the lighthouse and enjoy the great views of Alfaz.

THE HISTORY OF ALFAZ DEL PI

Historically, remains found prove that there were Roman colonists in Alfaz in the 2nd and 4th centuries. In the 17th and 18th centuries Alfaz was fortified to defend itself against the many attacks from pirates and corsairs from North Africa.

The name of Alfaz derives from the Arab word meaning sown field. The Pi part comes because it is the Valencian word for pine tree - in 1786 villagers planted a pine tree as a protest and demand for independence from the Polop Barony although it took until 1836 to achieve this.
