Working Farm with Tourism Potential for Sale in Douglas, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

Out of Africa and a River Runs Through It(Price Negotiable )

In 1904 my grandfather bought this farm from a friend and set out to prospect for diamonds. Indeed he found several of considerable value, among them 2 stones of over 100 carats. After his untimely passing in 1937, the farm remained in my family until I took over in 1960. By then the prospecting had come to an end and I wanted to develop the farming potential.

In the next 3 decades I developed and successfully farmed 83ha under irrigation - I cultivated potatoes, wheat, corn, cotton and alfalfa. By the late 80's the farming industry was under pressure and I decided to investigate the diamond potential. I ended up conducting small scale diamond mining on the property for about 16 years - I recovered several large stones and did quite well in that venture. After 16 years I had depleted most of the gravel reserves that contain the diamonds and decided to re-develop the irrigation, as farming had become profitable again, particularly in this area.

So at the ripe old age of 70, I once again found myself leveling ground, preparing seedbeds and erecting infrastructure. In addition I also spotted a potential for tourism in the area, as the influx of outsiders had grown over time and decided to follow the examples of others, by having a section of river frontage rezoned for residential purposes. I had 15 stands marked out by a surveyor and the process is in an advanced phase, nearing completion. These stands can be sold as vacation properties "on the river", as has been the custom in a few cases before.

Now retirement beckons...
