Converted Church for Sale in Kilmeena, Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland

Stunning Converted Stone Church on Atlantic Coast

Situated in wild and beautiful countryside on the west coast of Ireland, Kilgallán is a former Church of Ireland chapel, built in 1836. Kilgallán was converted in 2004 into a romantic, comfortable and atmospheric home, full of old world character but with bang up-to-date facilities. The tall gothic windows and rooflights fill the church with light, and the double height living room and dining room have feature stone walls, and are overlooked by balconies at different levels and finished to high standards. There are 4 bedrooms, a 5th study bedroom and 3 bathrooms.

The Church stands on a large site (c1 Acre), surrounded by rolling Mayo hills, near the ocean. In 1901 the belltower was struck by lightning and the Church was abandoned for almost a hundred years, until it was discovered and restored by the present owners.

Built of limestone, with bags of character, it featured on UK Channel 4’s "Grand Designs", and was described by Kevin McCloud as "the best Church conversion I have ever seen". Kilgallán is close to Clew Bay on the Atlantic Ocean, with stunning beaches, sailing & sea fishing nearby. The lively heritage town of Westport is only 5k away, and the Knock and Shannon Airports 40minutes and 1h30m away.
