Sosua is unique in the DR because it has a very large ex pat community, with thousands of British, Canadian, German, Italian, Swiss, US and many other nationalities living close by.

There are almost 200 small shops,bars and restaurants on Sosua Beach alone, with many many more larger ones in town
Windsor Heights is in the middle of an area called Lamulata, which is almost exclusively an ex pat area. In Windsor Heights itself there are US, UK, Cuban and German households. Lamulata is still developing, and it will probably be many years before it reaches it's full potential, but already it has several excellent restaurants (a Thai, a British/Indian a German and a large International contained in Hotel Las Canas) a German butcher/Deli and 3 local colamados (small food shops) for essentials like sugar, bread, milk, rum etc
