Chateau for Sale in Belgium

Magnificent Château in Rolling Belgian Countryside

Château du Jardin and grounds for sale, 50 minutes from Brussels, 30 minutes from Lille.

Magnificent 18th century château set in rolling Belgian countryside near the French border, completely restored with all modern conveniences, for sale by owner. Set in a 5-hectare (12-acre) park containing both French and English gardens, with a large wood, a chapel, storage sheds and spacious meadows with century-old trees, the château is replete with unique features: all its electricity is produced by solar panels; 90 m2 (968 sq.ft.) of panels sit atop the woodshed which contains 5-years worth of hardwood for burning; heating is provided by a state-of-the-art wood-fed furnace with all wood grown on the château grounds.

Hence the Château du Jardin is one of the most eco-friendly in Europe; there are no heating or electric costs associated with living in it. The Versailles-like rooms are furnished with original statuary, furniture, clocks, marble fireplaces, parquet and other Louis XIV and Louis XV ornaments. The library contains more than 3000 volumes, going back four centuries, in French, English, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. The crown molding, ceiling plaster and wall bas relief are also originals. The entire château has been restored in recent years by artisans using materials and methods as close as possible to the original. However, modern technology is seamless integrated: ADSL, cable TV and phone lines in each room, top-quality appliances (Miele, Bosch, etc.), a billiard room, a Jacuzzi, a ‘Temple’ shower, modern bathrooms and kitchen and an state-of-the-art alarm system.

There is a south-looking veranda, a large, stocked wine cellar and many basement rooms which cover the entire floor surface of the château. There are two rose gardens, a chapel and many marble statues throughout the park. Additionally there is an orchard with dozens of varieties of apple, pear, cherry, plum, and peach trees. Many varieties of nut trees are also found, including walnut, chestnut and hazel. There are other exotic species such as American Sequoia, Burgundy Oak and a variety of rare Dutch elms.

Bike and horse trails abound in the area and the Dendre canal (with its bike- and running-trail alongside) is only 300 meters away. Many neighborhood farms practice organic and sustainable farming and locally-produced vegetables, fruit, breads, cheese and meats are available year-round. Driving distances include: 50 minutes to Brussels, 30 to Lille or Valenciennes, 15 to Mons, 10 to SHAPE, 5 to Ath and Chièvres and 2 to the nearest green grocer, bakery or supermarket.

The Château du Jardin is also ideal as company headquarters.
