We are Canadians from Toronto who own a beautiful house in Nicaragua available for rent. (Check with us for exact dates for the weeks from March 2013 on)

Salinas Grandes

A Newly built beach house, with all the modern conveniences, located in a rustic setting on a beautiful stretch of beach on the Pacific coast in Salinas Grandes. Only 1 1/2 hours drive from Managua International Airport to the beach. Two hours flying time from Miami.

You can enjoy a fully air-conditioned environment, or if you prefer, open the windows and relax with the sounds of breaking waves and ocean breezes. In the evening you can enjoy a relaxing drink on your patio, or on the beach, while taking in some of the most spectacular sunsets you have ever seen. You may see the green flash at sunset.

The 5 mile kilometre stretch of pristine sandy beach, with no rocks and gradual incline, makes it ideal for swimming or surfing. The beach, along its length rarely has more than 3 or 4 people on it. When the tide is out there is a myriad of shells to collect as you explore the beach. Fresh fish, such as Red Snapper at $2.00 per pound, is available from the fishing boats as they arrive each morning on the beach. Lobster and shrimp are also available when in season. An event you will never forget are the turtles laying their eggs starting in Sept right through until March each year.

Located on the Pacific coast, Salinas Grandes is 15 30 kilometres from the city of Leon where you will find an abundance of quaint hotels and restaurants in a historic Spanish colonial setting. We are also approximately 4 hours from Costa Rica.

During the rainy season (June to October) the roads to the beaches are not good, as with most roads in Central America. However, it has recently been announced that the 11 km road from the main Pan American highway to the beach will be upgraded in near future.

Activities can include horseback/ATV riding on the beach, boogie boarding, surfing, local deep sea fishing of for Marlin and Tuna, river tours, river fishing and kayaking in the rivers or along the 22 kilometre Juan Venada Island turtle and wildlife reserve.


Getting There

Salinas Grandes is located on the Pacific Coast, 80 kilometres from the capitol of Managua and (30 kilometres from the city of León). This part has been already given above.

Many major airlines fly into Managua’s airport on a regular basis. Flights from Los Angeles, Dallas [3 hours], and Miami to Nicaragua are approximately 2 hours. Effective August 2007 Spirit Airlines will be flying to Managua from many points in the US with some of the cheapest fares available [But check all airlines that fly here before you book]. It might be a good idea to rent a car/truck to have as there is no shopping for food on the beach, one has to go to Leon but, there is fresh fish and seafood being brought in by the fishermen every morning at around 6/7AM that is cheap and can be bought.
The caretakers, who live on the property 24-7, are a husband and wife and are responsible for the day-to-day security and maintenance of the grounds and they tend to the many exotic plants and trees which have planted on the property. These caretakers are honest, trustworthy and very dependable. They are happy to provide guests with laundry, carefully washed and hung out to dry for ( US $5.00) and also to clean the house for (US $10) and make excellent beans and rice (Gayo Pinto) and fish if you so desire again for a nominal fee.


The rancho (or palapa) located directly on the beach is positioned on a clay stone patio which covers an area of 15 x 14 feet with a palm leaf roof which soars 40 feet high and looks great. There are 2 hammocks and 2 chairs provided.
