Twelve years ago, we arrived on our boat to park it and land tour Costa Rica - we fell in love with Bocas del Toro and have been here ever since. We designed the house listening to our dreams and then built it ourselves. A dream of living without the need for air conditioning or screens on a lush island in a house so open you do not know if you are inside or outside. A house designed with a gourmet kitchen in the center open to the dinning area, conversation area, breakfast table, and office area. This allows window walls with wondrous views of the sea and tropical gardens in all directions. The space allows sit down dinners of over 26 and finger food parties up to 75 with out crowding. It is large, but intimate for two people to live very comfortably.

The house is built using Coventec, panels of Styrofoam laced with galvanized fence wire, over coated with cement. A roof of Penalet (asbestos and cement) panels makes the house almost indestructible. The ceiling is completely exposed to offer a beautiful cathedral openness throughout with beautiful Panama woods used for the beams, roof sheathing, and flooring. The floors on all of the decks and porches are ceramic tile. Bath rooms are all ceramic tile. Two guest rooms, each with its own bath, are separated from the main living area on the main deck. All of the furniture has been made locally again with Panama woods.

The lot is slightly over one acre (0.5 hectors) with 52 meters of shore line. It is pool table flat. While the shore primarily faces the bay, the view extends through the cut to the Caribbean and to the city of Bocas in the other direction. The island is only mile long and 400 meters to the surf on the other side of the island - one of the favorites here in the archipelago. We are, however, well protected from the crashing sound of the surf. There are no roads, thus no cars – the dogs enjoy there freedom.

The pictures do feature a lot of the gardens to emphasize that this is not a baren coral island, but a lush green Panama island.
