Hacienda for Sale in Loja, Ecuador
Come Live the Nature Way
Rich soil, plentiful water and truly beautiful land.
The property is located in the southern part of Ecuador in the Andean mountains, at about 1 hour from Loja, which is an hour’s flight from the capital of Quito, and 6 miles (10 kilometres) south from the village of Vilcabamba, which is world-renown as the sacred valley of longevity, where many people live to more than 100 years. (John Robbins’ book, “Healthy at 100,” identifies Vilcabamba as one of the 4 healthiest spots in the world.)
With an influx of gifted foreigners from all over the world that are making this their home and you have a vital community where the peoples of the North and of the South meet and share.
The farm is close enough to Vilcabamba when you wish it, and far enough if you don’t.
At the farm, we encounter the traditional lifestyle which is one of tranquility, slow pace and nature watching. We encounter a large variety of animals and birds; hares, foxes, frogs and toads, hummingbirds, butterflies, doves, turtledoves, partridge, eagles and so much more.
The property is made up of two parcels of land that used to be part of a large hacienda that existed before the agricultural reforms of the nineteen seventies. The larger piece of 168 hectares (415 acres) is situated about a three-hour walk from the farm up in the mountains and borders the Podocarpus National Park. In the past, it carried beef animals but has not been farmed for many years. The rest of the land is located adjacent to a paved road.
This farm is comprised of 29 hectares (72 acres) surrounded on two sides by a river and then rising in stages to the ridge line. The land varies from gently rolling river bottom land to a very steep mountainside and has much excellent soil, 1.5 feet to 4.5 feet (45 to 135 centimetres) deep.
Apart from all the others, the farm is productive all year long due to a 5 360 cubic feet (150 cubic meters) reservoir gravity filled with a top-of-the-line 4-inche-pipe (10 centimetres) that then feeds the irrigation network with crystalline river water. The average temperature is of 61 °F (16 °C) at night and 79 °F (26 °C) during the day.
Much of the land has being cleared and fenced and you can find various crops such as corn, sugar cane, alfalfa and beans.
Of course, vegetables and fruits, such as bananas, papaya, mangos, maracuyà, berries, oranges, lemons, apples, peaches, coffee and more, are abundant as well as ornamental trees.
The infrastructure is without equal in the zone and includes two internal high-tension lines with two transformers, distribution system with five electric meters, two water sand filters, three complete and comfortable houses, a guest house, a modern barn suited for the local needs with a clean room for milk processing and a storage/worker house for visiting worker, six building in all, about 1 mile (1.5 kilometre) of well-built internal road and a big lagoon (fish pond) with Tilapia.
The farm can be adapted to different methods of farming and is perfect for several families living as a community.
The owners are committed to leave many extras, including furniture, household, one horse, a dog and a Mazda pick-up.
The farm is very beautiful, nestled in the valley with high Andean Mountains surrounding it and a tiny village across the river at the bottom of the hill.
The pictures will give you but a glimpse of the majesty of the place.
