LOCATION

The Mándl Castle is located in the town of Nagyatád, 1,5 km far from the downtown, nearby an artificial lake (14 ha), with the possibility of boating. To the south-north of the site the famous sculpture park of Nagyatád can be found, hosting summer camps of artists.

The town of Nagyatád can be found in the neighbourhood of Hungary’s southern frontier – 60 km far from the Croatian border, ca 55 km to the south of Lake Balaton, and ca. 150 km far from the Hungarian-Austrian borderstation (Rábafüzes). The city can be reached within 2 hours by car from Budapest. The next international airport receiving charters every day is located in Sármellék, about 60 km far from the city.

The city counts 30.000 inhabitants including the neighbourhood villages, Nagyatád itself has ca. 13.000 inhabitants.

Nagyatád is internationally famous for its good thermal water (hot spring water), it has two public Thermal Baths, one of them operating all the year.

BACKGROUND

The castle was built at the beginning of the 1930’s by earl Mándl. The family crest can still be found above the entrance of the castle. The castle is surrounded by a nice park alike an “English Garden”. The neighbourhood plots make further development possible.

There are very few castles with such ideal circumstances like the Mándl Castle has:

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The castle needs reconstruction, but has valid construction and thermal water (hot spring water) permits, the site could be used for recreation purposes with spa facilities.

In the framework of the project – and according to the valid construction and thermal water permits – a four-star hotel complex with 96 rooms might be built which will have an own wellness department. It ensures a bigger room for conference tourism and rooms suited for organisation of smaller trainings.

The essential goal of the project is to enhance the capacity of quality accommodation in the region with the reconstruction of the former Mándl-castle in Nagyatád, which possesses special capabilities. For the sake of the cause the building of the castle under local protection will regain the original shape of its façade. The internal room structure might be reshaped and modernized due to the new functions on an area of approximately 1610 m2, where the style of the interior design will try to grasp the spirit of the original era. According to plan, the building of the bath of 785 m2 useful space might be attached to the building of the castle through corridor link. The bath might enrich the service repertoire of the establishment with two theme pools, sauna, gym and health promotional services. This repertoire might be further broadened by the building of an outdoor pool, a music pavilion and a meditation house. The atrium houses on an area of about 2924 m2 might constitute major part of the accommodation capacity. Certainly, the building of a restaurant, the establishment of parking places, a park and certain additional institutions might be part of the program in order to provide for the needs of the complex. The overall building work, which consists of the new and also the restructuring work, might result in the development of about 6600 m2 useful space.

The Castle Hotel & Training Centre Mándl might be realized in the project to provide the following services:

- Castle Tourism: for someone with keen interest in cultural heritage and in ancient cultures
- Training Tourism: business events, two or more day trainings
- Hunt Tourism: for hunters arriving in this micro-region with claims for distinguished services
- Week-end Tourism: wellness and leisure services
