A few words about Paros

Paros is an island of Greece in the central Aegean Sea, with a surface area of approx. 165 km2. One of the Cyclades island group, it lies to the west of Naxos, from which it is separated by a channel about 8 km wide. It lies approximately 185 km south-east of Piraeus. The Municipality of Paros includes numerous uninhabited offshore islets and its nearest neighbor is the municipality of Antiparos, lying to its southwest.

A car-carrying shuttle-ferry operates all day (to and from Pounda, 3 miles south of Parikia). In addition a dozen smaller islets surround Paros.

Historically, Paros was known for its fine white marble, which gave rise to the term "Parian" to describe marble or china of similar qualities. Today,
Paros is primarily known as a popular tourist destination.

Paros has numerous beaches including Chrissi Akti near Drios on the east coast, at Pounda, Logaras, Piso Livadi, Naousa Bay, Parikia and Agia Irini.

Naoussa

The adjacent and picturesque fishing village of Naoussa is located in a huge bay in the northern part of Paros, 10 kilometres east from the capital, Parikia.

Naoussa is considered to be one of the prettiest villages in the Cyclades, authentic in terms of character and its charm, with its whitewashed and flowered homes, tiny whitewashed churches and chapels, surrounded by labyrinth-like narrow, stone-paved streets. It is amphitheatrically built around a tiny picturesque port where remains of a Venetian castle can still be seen, creating a particular and enchanting atmosphere.

The bay of Naoussa is characterized by some of the best beaches in Greece, such as Kolymbithres Beach, Agios Ioannis, Agioi Anargyroi and Monastiri among others, that cater for every taste. All can be accessed via footpaths, asphalt roads or small sea vessels.

In addition to many archaeological sites and monuments, the town of Naoussa has a multitude of beautiful churches such as its main church, Kimissis Tis Theotokou (the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin) and the Church of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas) which is home to a Byzantine Museum.
