The Magellan Inn was built in 1993 by a Canadian woman, my mother, and her French husband, an architect, who built & designed everything to perfection. It is unique and you will never find another of its kind. Time after time, clients tell me what an amazing peaceful and calm vibration they feel here during their stay.

All the buildings are built from the finest and hardest of tropical woods, all rot proof and insect proof, woods that are impossible or very expensive to buy now, such as; Nispero, Kasha to name only a few. Built to last, with solid posts of impenetrable Nispero going 5 feet into the ground. Til this day never a pieace of wood has needed to be changed for rot or termites, it is something to see. The finely built cabinets and furniture are made from tropical woods. The floors of specially designed marble and cement, copied from French Chateuxs.
Everything was built for quality and living, isolation in the roofs for heat and sound proof from room to room.

Magellan Inn has been my home and my 2 daughters’s home since 1995. Our only reason for us to leave our beautiful home and paradise is to start a project and passion of mine since I was little, a Horse Ranch, otherwise I would have no need to leave here. There is one lot of the hotel land which has a small pasture and 2 stalls for the horses we have now. This can be kept this way, or used for more bungalows, a house or gardens. As one would wish.

There are 6 spacious rooms, fully equipped, all with fans, terraces and fridges, 4 rooms with a/c and satellite tv.
The private quarters for the owner, have 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, private terrace and gardens, as well as the kitchen and dining area, with a/c and satellite tv.
The hotel has a large reception and dining area for breakfast and meals, with a bar, as well as the deck and sunbathing area around the bar.
The restaurant serves in the evenings on the open air terrace.
A big rancho style building with bathroom and shower is used for employees and utility room with washing machines, dryers, freezer etc…

Everything one needs to live and enjoy life is here. The sun, the sea, the climate, the abundant nature and animals, parrots fly by, toucans come to eat the fruits, sloth make their way slowly through the gardens from tree to tree. Wake up the sounds of a howler monkey and in the evenings relax in the hammock to the sounds of the jungle. Live & work in paradise! The Magellan Inn’s business runs smoothly with a high occupancy rate. Providing an excellent income for a family or couple. I run this easily with 2 excellent cleaning ladies who have been working with me for several years, a gardener/handyman and a part time receptionist. Wake up in the morning to a beautiful breakfast laid out for you, enjoy fresh Costa Rican coffee as you watch the birds in the gardens. Your rooms are cleaned, no more house work, no more raking leaves, just design your garden and pick your flowers for the vases if you so desire. Laundry and ironing? A thing of the past, never need to iron your own shirt again. I am not a lazy person, but I really don’t like ironing and washing dishes! I have enough things I like and love to do to keep me busy, horse back riding on the beach, surfing (great beaches for surfers!) snorkeling in the calm waters behind the coral reef. The coral reef off of Cahuita is the largest living one on this side of the Caribbean, beautiful different coloured corals, some even a deep purple and schools of colourful tropical fish and manta rays., a true delight and pleasure for the eyes. So between enjoying all that, there is time to talk and meet new people from different parts of the world, when they check in at the hotel for their holidays. I truly have met the most wide range of interesting people you could imagine, from famous music film composers to New York fireman, Deans of University, and novel writers, singers like Marc Anthony and TV Reality Shows like Love in the Wild, Q’Viva and others.

For families, we have an excellent small private school around the corner, a 5 minute walk. Both my daughters attended and my younger one still does. The older one is now in University studying Graphic design. A school that was created with the child at heart, respect, knowledge and equality. From pre-kinder to graduating from High school. 130 children from 17 different nations, all speaking a common language. Soon to be a bilingual school in Spanish & English, French is also taught in ALL the grades.
