Baile Olanesti is situated in the Valcea County in the central-Southern part of Romania. The place is settled at an altitude of 430-475m in the sub-Carpathian depression at 18km of Ramnicul Valcea, 81km of Sibiu ad 187km of Bucharest.
The region has a protective climate with mild winters (January average - 5°C- 41F) and cool summers (July average 21°C- 79F). Annual average temperature: 8.5°C. Moderate rainfall (750 mm annually); slow winds. Ozoniferous air in the surrounding forests.

Baile Olanesti is an all-season resort of national importance, with sulphurous, chlorided, slightly iodinated, brominated, sodic, calcic, magnesium mineral waters of various concentrations (oligomineral, hypotonic, isotonic, hypertonic). The spa combined with bathing and drinking cures.

The first mention of Baile olanesti dates from 1527. The curative effect of the springs is known since at least 1760. In 1830, the first who analyzed the composition of the medicinal waters was the physician Karl Friedrich Siller. In 1873 these mineral waters were reworded the gold medal at the International Exhibition in Vienna concerning their exceptional therapeutic qualities.
