Home for Sale in Puerto Armuelles, Chiriqui, Panama
Tropical Colonial Home
A Colonial Tropical Home carefully restored to its classic elegance and charm. Wake up to the sounds of crashing waves as the sun streams between the tall trees to greet you each morning. Enjoy the natural scenery framed out majestically by the six foot tall tropical wood shutters which extend from wall to wall beneath by the ten foot ceilings.
The plantation home’s structure complements a full sensory exposure to the sights, sounds and smells of the tropics. Enjoy the parrots as they race around the neighborhood screeching as light of day comes in. They will return with the twilight in the evening to roost in the palms of "Las Palmas", the name given to our little neighborhood. The ocean is only a ten minute walk away giving us fresh sea breezes that blow through the large open 3000 sq ft home.
Living space is nicely divided and managed between the two levels. The large kitchen (13’x14’) boasts terra cotta tile floors and reclaimed cabinets of Sangrio (a deep rich red colored local hard wood similar to cherry). Cooking space centers around a hand carved teak Island and breakfast bar.
The master suite is 13’x15’ with a private full bathroom and a walk-in closet. This room has A/C. The second bedroom is 15’x10’ with extra storage above the closet. The office is 9’x9’ and could hold a bed if desired. The bathrooms all have tile floors and custom built teak cabinets. ‘Heat on Demand’ hot water is available throughout the house.
Downstairs has been remodeled to create a large outdoor living room area that feels much like a Spanish courtyard. Immediately adjacent are the guest quarters, a large studio apartment with custom wood windows and accents, A/C and a full bathroom with a lovely tiled walk in shower. In the morning stroll out of the guest quarters into the open living area. Enjoy a cup of our great Panamanian coffee while greeting the day to the playful cacophony of our feathered friends. Also downstairs is a laundry area and a secure storage room.
A pump closet accesses a 900 gallon reserve water storage system with pressurized pump, ensuring that you will not have any delays in water services. The property is titled and encompasses about 3/4 of an acre. On the property are fruit trees including guanabana, orange, lemon, coconut, banana and cashew. A beautiful mango tree provides large amounts of that fruit. Enjoy!
Phone, DSL, and satellite TV are available from local providers.
The Las Palmas homes were built to give United Fruit Company executives a private oasis in the tropics of Panama. Many of these homes have been lovingly cared for and diligently brought back, restored and updated to reclaim their charm and dignity for generations to come. So many adventures and wonderful experiences have been lived out here. If this town could talk, it would tell us the stories of the people’s lives and loves, triumphs and tragedies and of the humility and faith overlapping this one place. A place of presidents and peasants.
The Days of Chiquita Banana remain as a sweet aroma in the air of Puerto Armuelles. The history of this city adds to Puerto’s hometown charm as a little beach town that welcomes retirees from diverse ways of life. The neighborhood of Las Palmas displays the successful integration of Panamanian and foreign owners who are sharing the benefits of friendly co-existence. Your neighbors are all very friendly and welcoming and most speak English. The Las Palmas School has been bridging the gap between the two cultures by becoming a leader in English education.
Though a small town, Puerto Armuelles is the district hub for government provided services including a hospital, police, and municipal works. In town, everything for everyday living is available, grocery stores, pharmacies, dollar stores, a dentist, doctors, gyms, Internet cafés, etc. There are repair shops for: furniture, TV, shoes, bikes, clothes, appliances, and practically anything. You can get a haircut, facial, massage, or pedicure. You can participate in recreational hiking in the mountains 15 minutes away, biking, surfing, beach fun, deep sea fishing expeditions, or visit the monkeys and turtles at the end of the peninsula at Punta Burica.
The town is poised for a growth spurt in new direction starting with a planned four-lane highway which will connect us to the Inter-American. This should cut our driving time to David down to less than one hour. There has also been much ado about re-building and opening the pier to cargo and cruise ships which will make our Trade Free Zone much more accessible.
This is a great opportunity to get into the action at the onset and add your own piece of the story to this colorful town. Once the International Airport in David is finished we will be within a day’s journey to almost anywhere in the Americas. Come on down!
