Village House for Sale and Rent in Pigna, Liguria, Italy

Charming, Medieval House with Stunning Mountain Views

Sleeps 5/7. Charming 2 bedroom, 500 year old townhouse in beautiful medieval village of Pigna in the province of Imperia. Liguria. Two balconies which are south-facing enjoy stunning views over the Nervia valley. Fantastic location to explore area around both the French and Italian Riviera. The 'real Italy!' Why not visit the Grand Prix in Monaco and retreat to your own piece of paradise in the evening!

The house is on 4 levels. The property is south facing and gets the sun all year round, yet in the summer the thick walls keep it lovely and cool after a day in the sun. On the ground floor is the kitchen/dining-room with beautiful vaulted ceiling. A bedroom with 3 beds and a bathroom with shower is on the second floor. On the third floor is the master bedroom with stunning views. On the top floor is the bright, sunny living room where the views get even better! One can gaze out at night and see the village of Castel Vittorio seemingly suspended in the air.

The living room has a large comfortable sofa which turns into a double bed. It has a cathedral ceiling and french doors leading onto two small balconies. The house is very quaint but has all the mod cons for your comfort. The property has rare vehicle access close to the front door for unloading and there is parking 100m away. We have central heating making the house lovely and cosy for those winter nights.

Small children would have to be supervised carefully because of the stairs and balconies although we do have two stair gates. We have an English-speaking representative who would meet you with the keys and offer any advice needed. Everyone comments on how helpful she is and how she goes out of her way to make guests' stay as enjoyable as possible. A welcome pack of tea, coffee, a bottle of wine, bread, jam, biscuits and toilet rolls is provided on arrival. Sorry, no smoking or pets allowed.

Two balconies on the top floor large enough to sit out and enjoy a drink whilst enjoying the beautiful views. The balconies are south-facing and because of the house's high position in the village enjoy the sun all year round. Everything in the village is within easy walking distance, piazza, bars, shops and restaurants.

One and a half hours from ski resort of Limone.

Pigna has a bank, two pizzeria, a trattoria which sells traditional home-cooked Italian food, a highly-regarded Ligurian restaurant (the latter two are both mentioned in the Guardian article by Joshua Stein) and a four star spa hotel with a restaurant, swimming pool and beauty treatments. There are many more restaurants in the vicinity. It has 3 grocery shops and a chemist. There are beautiful natural swimming holes dotted around the village if you want a change from the beach. A nearby campsite has a swimming pool which can be used for a small fee - they even allow you to take your own food and drink. In the Summer the village is host to numerous dances and cultural events. The village is very child-friendly with a playground, football pitch and a tennis court. For the more active guests there are lots of designated walks around Pigna. The house is less than a minutes walk to the Piazza where in the Summer months everyone sits and enjoys a drink and watches the world go by! On a Saturday the market is held in the piazza and you can buy delicious cooked chickens perfect for a light lunch! Italians from cities such as Milan and Venice come to Pigna to escape from the hustle and bustle and relax and enjoy the simple life. Pigna has a wealth of art, monuments and history. The church of San Michelle, which dominates the village, is home to the famous 'Polyptych' painted by Giovanni Canevesio in 1500 whilst in the chapel of St Bernado you can admire the frescoes depicting 'The Last Judgement', also by Canavesio. Guest reviews:

Just to let you know we had a lovely holiday, your house was great and had
everything we needed. What a great base Pigna is for visiting the surrounding areas. We travelled around quite a bit visiting most of the small towns and some parts of the South of France. Christine, July 2012

Everything was wonderful, it was exactly what we wanted (old Italy) we fell in love with Pigna and the surrounding area and the generosity of the people was very good. We loved the house- beautiful! and the wedding was more then we could have dreamt, everything from the restaurant, photographer, flowers etc.. Liam and Barbara, Feb 2008

As if the views and vistas weren't enough, the kindness of the locals, the food and the wine made this holiday 'all it could be'. Justin & Anne Marie, Canada, May 08.

We have absolutely loved it here. We have found so much to do, it was impossible to do everything in the two weeks. See you next year! The Prudhoes, Sept 08
