Watersports and Diving Business for Sale in Mulifanua, Upolu Island, Western Samoa
Watersports and Diving Business
Our main dive sites (around a dozen) are behind Aggies Reef about 5 minutes by boat away. We have another area with around 25 or so sites adjacent to Manono and Apolima Islands about a 40 minute boat ride away, and there is still much to explore in a region which offers walls, coral gardens, canyons, cracks in the reef, chimneys, lava tubes and many different pinnacles. To help us find more sites we offer ‘explorer’ dives to our Advanced Divers and above, many of whom have had sites either named after them or given them a name of their own choosing.
In the opposite direction and about a 10 minute ride away is our main diver training and DSD site, a beautiful area called Fish Bowl Cafe which gives new divers a spectacular first glimpse of the underwater world. Fish Bowl is also popular with snorkelers who can swim around the edges of the coral bowls where the water is between 1 and 2 metres or duck dive into the centre for a more adventurous experience. Over the reef past here is where we sank a wreck in 2008 (the Noongomanda – a long line fishing vessel), which is now home to more and more sea life, and where divers can easily access the wheelhouse and engine room. Adjacent to the wreck are a number of other sites including Magic Mushroom where schools of reef sharks are often encountered. We have recently sunk another wreck – Tavae – a much larger vessel (33m Tug Boat)which is turning out to be an amazing dive site.
Directly in front of the Dive Centre out at the reef is our standard snorkelling site – Aggies Aquarium, close by and easily accessible this caters to the bulk of snorkelers including young children and the elderly. Water temperature here ranges from 26-28degrees in winter (end May to September) and 28-31degrees for the remainder of the year - perfect..
Direct flights from Australia, NZ, Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji and American Samoa bring to Samoa all types of travellers, from budget and backpackers through to the up market high end tourist. Tourists mainly come from Australia and New Zealand, however, numbers of European, Asian and American tourists are steadily increasing.
Our current promotions include an ad in Dive Pacific Magazine, and the sought after position in the Jason’s Visitors Guide for Samoa - the full back page, in addition to a full colour ad on the Jason’s Samoa Map and Jason’s website. Our own web page can be found under , , and . We have been promoted through articles and editorial in various dive magazines, have been seen on Australian Getaway and holiday and travel TV shows in Europe and Australia, and played a part in the filming of four separate American Survivor Series, 2 in 2009 and 2 in 2011.
Samoa is a fast growing tourist destination and so the opportunities are only limited by imagination and drive.
We have a 5 bedroom home (for sale separately), which we have started to market as self contained dive accommodation for groups and/or clubs and this side business has yet to be developed to its full potential. Also available is a 2 bedroom home in the Capital APIA with a single room garden apartment located on the same property. Either or both of these can be sold separately or as part of the business. Our current personal accommodation is located on the Resort grounds within the Golf Course and comprises a two bedroom, two bathroom home with a large veranda overlooking the 11th hole of the Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean. This is leased from the Resort at a minimum rent of $1350 SAT per month (about $550AUD) which includes electricity.
There is scope to add further water sports, land tours, sale of snacks and other foods/drinks, and expand stock on hand. We currently sell ice creams, cigarettes, masks, fins and snorkels, dive equipment, wetsuits, t-shirts, polo shirts and singlet’s, kids pool toys, dive torches and jewellery.
Our turnover is around $250K AUD each year and our asking price is $450K AUD. Our lease with the resort is a 5 year renewable contract under which we supply free non motorised activities to guests of the resort only. Non motorised activities include kayaks and pedal boats, and also free snorkeling equipment for guests to use around the resort. Fortunately the snorkeling close to shore here is not good so this simply presents us with an opportunity to sell guests one of our snorkeling trips to the reef! There is no commission or other lease costs payable. The Resort owns and maintains the buildings we are in (except the workshop as this is a container and belongs to us), and also the jetty. All furniture belongs to AquaSamoa.
