Water Island is the fourth U.S. Virgin Island located in the southern bay of St. Thomas. It is about 2.75 miles long and has 5 beaches. Summer population is around 120 and the winter population is around 200. The U.S. Postal Service delivers daily to Water Island, and a regularly scheduled ferry provides the 7 minute transport to Crown Bay Marina on St. Thomas. Primary vehicles on Water Island are golf carts. A regular barge service also runs from St. Thomas, and the airport is 10 minutes away.

The island is a place where it is easy to walk to any point and great if you want to maintain a regular exercise schedule. The primary beach is named Honeymoon Beach and there is a vendor there with good food and drinks. Each Monday on the beach is ‘Movie Night’ where people line up their golf carts for an old fashioned drive in move.

Water Island was the last of the USVI’s to be transferred from the Department of Interior to the USVI Government in 1998. You will not find Water Island on most of the tourist information and it is still one of the best kept secrets of the Caribbean.
