Exceptional Land on an Exceptional Site

Quattrocchi, to the South West of the island, is by far the most beautiful location in Lipari. Only five minutes drive from the harbour, it is a sight-seeing "must" for all visitors to the island. It offers one of the best views of Vulcano.

In 1954, maestro Sergiu Celibidache fell in love with this unique view and decided to buy his "field of God" in order to find his well-deserved tranquillity and stimulate divine inspiration.

He bought a collection of adjacent fields in order to collectively achieve one magnificent location of 1.4 hectares. Subsequently, he built seven houses, including a small chapel, individually named after the seven neighbouring islands, including a small chapel with its own bell tower.

Having found his paradise on Earth, Celibidache bought another three fields to enlarge the whole estate by an additional 1.8 hectares with future plans to incorporate further housing, sporting and parking facilities (ref. 131,132 and 361).

Subsequent to his last stay in 1982, his close friends visited the estate for a few years before Celibidache finally decided to close down the estate at the beginning of the 90's, as the buildings were then in need of major refurbishment.

Despite several offers towards the end of the 90's, Celibidache always refused to sell what took him over thirty years to build. Eight years after his passing away, his family has nevertheless decided to put the whole estate up for sale.

The seven houses could either be restored to their original state (favourite choice of the family) or used within a new "condo style" complex using the seven original houses as the core to the layout plan. The additional 1.8 hectares could then be designed to provide other luxurious amenities sympathetic to the new project.

Whatever the future holds, Quattrocchi will always remain a secret garden of the Gods. Sergiu Celibidache made it a place to transcend earthly routine.
