Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberries is a hydroponic fruit and vegetable business which invites tourists to pick their own produce, order produce on line or visit the growing facility and café.

All produce is greenhouse grown, there are three tomato greenhouses totalling 8000 sq meters and three strawberry greenhouses, two are 3000 sq meters total, the other is 1200 sq mts and is brand new; the first crop in this new shed was planted in December 2012.

Whilst the trading figures and return on investment of the business are truly outstanding, the two homes on the farm are a further feature. Built in 2007, the main home is of sandstone block construction and is a true retreat. Sitting majestically above a fish-filled lake, this exquisitely finished and air-conditioned spacious home boasts five bedrooms, two bathrooms and an enormous, split-level open-plan living area with polished blue-gum timber floors and quality cedar windows and doors. The kitchen is a true feature - large, open plan with granite bench-tops and walk-in pantry.

The second is a well maintained weatherboard home of four bedrooms, one bathroom, modern kitchen, large sunroom and billiard room. The floors are of polished brush box timber. There is a large outdoor entertaining deck area which surrounds the private swimming pool. This home has traditionally been used as the manager’s quarters.


State of the art computerized technology control the greenhouses and produces high quality hydroponically grown produce. The business has complete control over irrigation, nutrient application, humidity, temperature, light, insect and disease control. There are water tanks and seven dams ere are no water issues here.
Café Red is an informal country café which operates the retail division of Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberries and serves healthy lunch and snack choices in an air conditioned environment. This front of house section of the business attracts over 200,000 visitors a year. The cafe comprises a big sunny restaurant space with large glass panels to view the growing tomato crop. Surrounding this area are the retail items including over 20 different value-added jams, relishes and sauces carrying the Ricardoes name. Nothing is wasted on this farm - anything not up to A-Grade goes into a jar. These products have won over 15 medals at the various Royal Fine Food Shows and, over time have become a very important part of the business. Ricardoes opens 364 days a year and has been voted the region's "Best Tourist Attraction" four years running. The tomatoes have been awarded 1st Place at the Sydney Royal Easter Show four years running and in 2012 won Champion Exhibit. The business has been featured on no less than 6 national TV shows including "Getaway" and "Sydney Weekender".

Ricardoes Tomatoes has become more and more popular with locals and tourists alike and this is reflected in a continual business growth of about 15% over the past 3 years. As well, Ricardoes has become a favourite rest stop for Pacific Highway travellers. The Highway carries 25,000 vehicles a day and is just 2km away. And, with the recent construction of a brand new strawberry greenhouse, Ricardoes can now guarantee strawberries all-year-round. The U-Pick strawberries are the main drawcard but once here, visitors spend on the Cafe, tomatoes, Ricardoes jams and other local produce.
