Castello Carbonana was built in the 5th Century as a signal post when the senate was in Rome and while the Emperor resided in Ravenna. In the 10th Century the Templar order of the militant monks built the smaller tower in front of the fortress. In the 12th Century the round tower was built and the abbot was given the castle and the title Count of Carbonana. The remainder of the building (roofed) was completed in the 14th Century and encloses the courtyard. Situated in the centre of Italy, it is a half hour from the 8 lane superhighway, the Strata del Sole that connects all of Italy. It is 2 1/2 hours from the Rome airport by car and 1 1/4 hours from Florence. The Adriatic Seashore, which can be seen from the tower on clear days is a short 1 hour drive away. Rimini is also 1 hour away and has a jet landing strip. Over a dozen beautiful Italian sightseeing cities are also within an hour away, which attract thousands of tourists annually. Perugia is only 1/2 hour away and has an English speaking University and Chianti is a short 10km trip.
