Villa for Sale in Los Cerros, Sosua, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Lovely Home with Fabulous Ocean Views

Have you dreamed about Carribean living, reading under the palms and having the trade winds keep you cool and comfortable? How does having your own mango and avocado trees sound? This home offers you all that and so much more. It is only a ten minute walk down the hill to the beach. When you return you could swim in the sparkling heart-shaped pool, or maybe relax in the swing in the meditation garden. Maybe you just want to gaze at the expansive ocean and mountain views from the front wall, wondering if it is all a dream. Once in a while, "too good to be true" is the real thing. This turnkey-ready home has been lovingly maintained by us, the owners, for over 20 years. We are now ready to turn our dream home over to another family, as we are moving on to a new adventure in Spain.

This home is only 15 minutes from the Puerto Plata international airport (POP) and sits in a very quiet and friendly multi-national neighborhood where English is the linga franca. The peaceful atmosphere is one of the most desireable features of this home. In the evening the tree frogs chirp, the cicadas hum and some night birds may sing. While we are close to Sosua, we are free from the noise and hustle and bustle of the town.

The living quarters are on the second floor In order to take advantage of the the view and the trade winds that blow through the louvered pine windows. The first act of the day is to throw open the gates for an unobstructed view of the ocean and mountain ranges. We are often able to see down the coast as far as Luperon. In the evening the lights of Puerto Plata twinkle in the distance.

The open kitchen, dining and living room area looks and feels expansive because of the 14 ft. cathedral ceiling. An additional room looks down on the garden/ pool area. This has been used as television/reading/computer room but could serve as an artist's studio as well as an extra bedroom. The room contains twin beds, which we now use as couches. The half bath is at the top of the stairs. It would be very easy to install a shower stall if one wanted to use this room as a bedroom.

The stairwell features the artist-designed stained glass windows we commissioned in Maine, brought to the DR and had installed. These four panes represent the mountain as we see it from the front windows, leading down to a magical and whimsical sea world, complete with depictions of some of the tropical fish that live on the coral reef in Sosua Bay. (Please note.. there is a living coral reef about 100 meters off the beach.) The stairwell is lighted and in the evening the colors of the windows glow onto the pool and garden.

The lower level has 3 large bedrooms and a full bath. One of the walls in the master bedroom could be expanded to make another full bath. There are huge closets in all the bedrooms and a floor to ceiling linen closet in the hallway. A large storage closet at the foot of the stairs holds the hot water tank plus tools and ladders. There are more storage space over all the bedroom closets as well.

The walk areas around the house have been tiled in rustic terra cotta and the tiles on the rises of the steps from the driveway to the house were imported from Italy. There is a motion-activated spotlight at the front door. The water pump has been refurbished, as has the pool pump. The area behind the house is not large but shiflerra plants grow up along the wall, giving it the feel of a courtyard. It is suitable for drying clothes but could be used as an area for pets. This area plus the garden can be illuminated in the evening with numerous lights plus a spotlight.

The pool (25,000 gal) has a full patio area with table and five chairs. There are 4 resort-style chaisse lounges on the lawn nearby. The pool pump and other apparatus is underground at the far end of the property and the pool lights are on the outside of the pool house.

The mature garden has various colored bourgainville, night-blooming jasmine, native orchids and hybrid hibiscus plants growing around the native stone (calichi) walls that define the property lines. The centerpiece of the garden/pool area is a towering tropical plant/tree which provides wonderful shade. There are various ocean and mountain views from different spots in the garden.

The house is furnished with native pine and bamboo furniture. Two small sofas allow you to sit and watch sunsets or reading areas in the evenings. Cookware, dishes, some tools, will be ready and waiting for the new owners. This house has been very special to us and our family and has never been a rental property. We are offering this lttle serene corner of the world to someone else who will enjoy it as we have. We wish you, the new owners, the joy and serenity we have had here.
