Your new mountain retreat features a wide wrap-around veranda offering amazing views of mountains, valleys, forests, pastures and the Pacific Ocean. On New Year’s Eve and other holidays you can enjoy the fireworks displays down at the beach . . . in silence.

The main floor features an open plan with a Great Room with French doors, a 24 foot high cathedral ceiling, a stone fireplace for show or for that rare very cool evening or, just for fun, to roast marshmallows when the grand-kids visit. The kitchen and dining area is a visual treat with extensive custom wood cabinetry with glass fronts all the way across the top of the L-shaped kitchen to display collectibles and special china pieces.

In addition to all the open space, the second thing you’ll notice upon entering your new oasis in the mountains is the amazing and beautiful wooden ceilings throughout the home – even in the bathrooms, one of which has a modified cathedral ceiling of its own. The wood is sour cedar (termites do NOT like it) and has a soft glow protected by marine varnish.

When your family and friends come to visit they will enter through your iron-gated entrance covered by an arch of flowering bougainvillea and come down your private drive lined with colorful plants and flowers on both sides. At night, the glow of lantern-type lights along the drive will guide your guests under star light to your front door surrounded by terraced planting areas and potted plants. In the daytime, humming birds, the beautiful “squirrel cuckoo,” a variety of other birds, and an occasional flock (!!) of parakeets as well as butterflies by the dozen keep the visual interest high.

If all of your family comes at once, you can also accommodate two adults and four kids (in two sets of bunk beds) in the separate downstairs unit with a full bath. It has its own patio with hammock hooks. The owners have furnished the home so that eleven (11) people can sleep – with no one on the floor or in the hammocks :-).

Usually, stepping out on one of the verandas to catch the breeze or turning on one of the three indoor ceiling fans or the one outside will suffice, but if it’s an unusually warm day, you can always turn on the new air conditioners in the study, master bedroom and downstairs unit. And, yes, you might have guessed: there is neither a heat system… nor a heating bill!

In thirty minutes you can be at the beach without having to contend with the constant heat of the lowlands. And you can be in Panamá City, a bustling metropolis of 1.3 million, in 75 minutes to enjoy nightlife, first-run movies (in English) in one of several multiplexes, casinos, jazz clubs, upscale restaurants and huge, modern shopping malls. In another 20 minutes you can be at Tocumen (PTY) international airport to fly to the US, South America, Europe, the Caribbean and the rest of Central America.

Back at your home base in the mountains near Sora, you will have the advantage of being close to, but outside, the large and rapidly growing retirement destination of Altos del Maria. In the medium–size development of Soralpina, you will enjoy the camaraderie of a friendly mix of North American and European ex-patriots as well as native Panamanians who are either your full-time neighbors or who come for the weekends to escape the heat and hectic pace of the city. The neighborhood is recently experiencing the building of upper-bracket homes built by health professionals, bankers, retired executives, lawyers and others making it a tranquil and pleasant environment.

And, no, the two swan-look-alike geese, named Honk and Tonk, the pet “watch geese,” do not convey with the home. But you can buy your own geese down the mountain road in Behuco.
