The Interiors

In keeping with the contemporary Finnish architecture, interior designer Susan
Lacson kept the interiors in a modern minimalist style. To maintain the beauty
and texture of the pine, Ms. Lacson chose a design that will blend and not
compete with the natural appeal of the wood. Simple and uncluttered lines
with just the basic furniture were set in place to achieve a place of respite
from the city, where one can calm the nerves and de-stress amidst the lush
environment.
Awash in a natural light, open areas in the ground floor are set off by black
tile flooring. In the living area, two black leather armchairs sit on opposite
sides of a bright orange sofa, while a large Zen-inspired lamp hovers above.
A big rattan plate from Bohol is incorporated with a glass and stainless steel
center table. A neutral toned area rug defines this space from the nearby
dining area, which follows the same clean-lined approach. Sleek and
functional, a square glass-topped dining table easily accommodates eight
diners. Borrowed views from outside framed through large windows make
mealtimes more relaxing. Abstracts are hung in select areas, adding punches
of colors against pine log walls.
Winding stairs take us to the second floor, where the more intimate spaces
are located. The family room encourages casual conversations and relaxed
TV viewing with a fully upholstered L-shaped couch and chaise lounge paired
with a small round table. Overlooking the ground floor, this space exudes a
bright, refreshing ambiance.
Serenity is best defined in the three bedrooms. All beds and window
treatments make use of jute linen fabric, pulling off an earthly look that
perfectly blends with the richness of the wood all around. Bolder hues were
utilized in the toilet and bath of every room – cobalt blue for the guest room
downstairs, yellow green for the smaller room and red for the master suite.
While the bathrooms give a jolt of color to each bedroom, glass doors, steel
and white ceramic fixtures keep them smartly uncluttered.
A study in modernity amidst Tagaytay Highland’s lush and tranquil
environment, this charming log home takes advantage of the cool, provincial
breeze and a healthy mix of traditional living and the comforts provided by
the Highlands and Midlands golf and country clubs. It represents a healthy,
