The farms enjoys a microclimate favorable to the production of year-round pasture. The Rio Chavon, one of the most important rivers in the Dominican Republic, traverses the farm. Two tributaries of the Chavon, Chavoncito and Arroyon, also flow through the farm. Additionally, there are dozens of springs and small creeks, feeding their crystalline waters into these major arteries. The Farm is more than 1200 acres (7,500) tareas, cross-fenced into over forty pastures, almost all of them with new wire and live posts; and each pasture has live water. The vet of the farm tells that this is the best-watered farm on the island. About half the land is flat to gently rolling; the other half is hilly, with none too steep to graze. The grass grows so fast, cattle can often be rotated back to a grazed pasture after thirty days. The farm currently has around 450 heads of cattle, and plan to double that in the next three years. They are using Brahma, Brown Swiss and Holstein crosses to produce a dual purpose animal. Most of the cows can raise a calf and be milked once a day, all on grass, with no additional feeds, except minerals. They raise and fatten their bulls to slaughter weight all on grass. They milk about seventy five cows year-round and they rotate cows in and out of the milk herd as needed. The sale of the milk covers all their operating costs. The sale of beef is pure profit. Although they sell their beef locally, the rising popularity of grass-fed beef in the United States will make it more profitable to export in the future. There is sunshine and rain in abundance, often on the same day. Crystal clear mountain streams abound in potential hydroelectric energy as well as waterfalls and swimming holes. Trade winds keep even the hottest days in the low eighties. There are no poisonous snakes or dangerous animals of any kind. There are no taxes. All around there is the overwhelming greenness of the grass. For additional information, please contact us.
