That is what we did with setting up Hooked Cabarete; a small hotel in wind-, kite- and wave surf town Cabarete in the Dominican Republic. Due to some personal circumstances we are selling Hooked.
 
Hooked Cabarete is a small hotel with apartments set up for surfers, kite surfers and other active people. Surfing and kitesurfing are increasing in popularity strongly and more and more people want to learn this on their holiday and enjoy the surf scene. Something you can’t have in most hotels here in Cabarete. Many people are searching for this type of accommodation; they like a more relaxed accommodation, want to see and do things loose from the tourist crowd or because it is nice to have an apartment for yourself with your own kitchen, terrace and lots of space to relax and hang out quietly. This results in that Hooked has been fully occupied most of the time the whole year round (during high and low season) which gives a secure and high income.
 
Hooked Cabarete is located in a beautiful surrounding, only a few minutes walk from the beach. It is the closest accommodation to the (only) surfbeach Encuentro, which is popular for surfing and kitesurfing, but also still quiet and not spoiled by tourism. So great for people who like to escape from the tourism crowd. Still, Hooked is also close to the center of Cabarete with all its bars, restaurants and good nightlife. It is only 3 kilometers to the centre and there are many ways of transport to get there; taxi’s, motoconcho’s (motortaxi’s) and guagua’s (small local busses) drive all day and night long and people can also choose to rent a moped/scooter for a small amount with their apartment. For many people a plus since this also gives them a chance to check out Cabarete and the surrounding area by themselves.
 
The area where Hooked is located, is a residential one with no other possibilities for building hotels closer to the coast which has the only surfspot in the area (and best one of the Caribbean). The area is safe and has security at day and night-time. It is only 20 minutes from the airport Puerto Plata where many cheap flights from all over the world fly to.
 
Besides the accommodation and scooter rental, Hooked also organizes trips to some beautiful places in the country where people normally would not come; for example to the waterfalls or into the mountains and off-road with ATV’s. For people who want to learn surfing, kitesurfing or diving, we work together with a surf school, kitesurf school and also with a diving school. So besides income from accommodation and scooter rental, you also get a steady income from trips and activities and commission from the surf, kitesurf and diving schools. Hooked Cabarete gets its customers by promotion and advertisements on the internet on several websites and forums which are mostly surf, kitesurf or adventure sports related. In the past years, the name Hooked Cabarete became well known especially in the surf and kitesurf scene. Besides direct clients, Hooked also works together with 10 different tour operators from all over the world that book accommodation at Hooked for their clients.
 
One of the advantages of taking over Hooked Cabarete, is that you don’t have to go through all the hassle of building and/or setting up something new by yourself while living in a new and totally different country. This is a long and frustrating process which you simply skip by taking over a well-running business. Of course there are still lots of things you can add or improve to the business, so no worries about not having a challenge.
