This is a medieval village 600 meters above sea level, in a position privileged for the tranquility, the landscape, the extraordinary charm of the territory.
A cluster of stone houses, alleys, stairs and underpasses, made homogeneous and "softened" by the light pink color of the local stone, with which everything was built.
Approximately 50% of the village has already been restored. The intervention involves the progressive recovery of buildings, common parts and paths public, which are restored to their original appearance and returned to the use of the inhabitants.
HISTORY
The name of the village is reported in numerous parchment documents of the XV century, but without doubt the birth of the village goes back a long time before. In fact, since the IX century, the monks Benedictines had chosen the fertile and secluded valleys of the district of Mount San Vicino, to carry out their program of pray and work. For many centuries the pilgrimage path Assisi-Loreto passed by here, witnessed by numerous rural churches decorated with 15th and 16th century frescoes.
A map of the Gregorian cadaster of the early 1800s indicates in great detail the structure urban planning made up of alleys and groups of small houses. This arrangement has practically been preserved unchanged up to our days.
THE TERRITORY
The nearest city is about t 10 kilometers far, 13,000 inhabitants, equipped with modern commercial, health, sports and leisure facilities, but above all rich in art and history, now a destination for cultural tourism.
We are in the center of the Marche, where each town has much to tell and to show. This region is little known but offers visitors exciting discoveries.
From here you can quickly reach both the most famous seasides resorts of the coast (Senigallia, Sirolo, Porto Recanati) and the mountain ski resorts (Sarnano, Ussita, Castelsant'angelo). You can comfortably go to know cities like Fabriano, Jesi, Macerata, or immerse yourself in the mysticism of Norcia, Assisi, Gubbio, in nearby Umbria.
The Marche hinterland allows enthusiasts to explore places of naturalistic interest of all kinds, from the Frasassi Caves to the Sibillini National Park, from the Natural Reserve of Abbadia di Fiastra at the Gole del Furlo. All embellished with small lakes, castles, medieval villages.
THE PROJECT
A global restructuring is underway in the village.
A homogeneous and careful recovery to respect the architectural features of the place, a face intervention to preserve more than to replace. A reconstruction that does not alter the genetic code of the village, done of ancient and consolidated materials: stone, wood, terracotta, wrought iron.
Chigiano, due to its structure, allows to obtain real estate units of different types and various dimensions, or to realize a "hotel diffuso" type of resort, with accommodations, common areas and services, distributed in the various buildings.
RECOVERY
Currently the intervention concerns the large building belonging to the noble family, consisting of two bodies joined together: Il palazzo and Casa dei Paladini.
Structural restoration has been completed, integrated with the execution of external finishes (roofs, gutters, plaster and stucco). Strictly respecting the most recent legislation on earthquake safety.
The aspect of energy saving and of acoustic comfort was also very accurate.
It is a very careful restoration of architectural elements and original materials. All newly inserted beams are oak, the bricks are original or hand made cotto, the plaster and stucco work are made with the grinding of the local stone.
The total area of these two bodies, gross of walls, is about 2,000 square meters.
The project plans to build 18 housing units of various sizes, a "tavern" and a "wine bar
wine shop ”(taken from the old large cellars) as well as some service rooms.
In addition to the two above mentioned buildings, there are other various buildings for a total of approximately 5.000 m2
