Hunga Island, Vava’u is the most westward island in the Vava’u group chain of islands in the north of Tonga. It is not the same island as Hunga Ha’;apai which is an active volcano to the southwest of Vava’u Hunga.
Hunga is an off-shore Island some 35 minutes from Neiafu Harbour and is renowned for its concentrations of Humpback whales between July and October each year.
The island lies in deep water and its unique geographical location provides sheltered waters and bays which provide a welcome haven and resting place especially for Humpbacks with their calves.
